Our Veg Box Donation Scheme volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and ages, but all have a heart for those in need and a passion to provide them with a healthy diet, as well as helping to combat food waste.

There are a range of tasks which volunteers could be involved in:

  • Every Friday morning at a community hall in Potton, volunteers sort produce and pack the veg boxes ready for delivery. This is a lovely social time as well, with a break for tea, coffee, biscuits and a chat.
  • Volunteers then deliver the veg boxes to those referred to VBDS, in Potton, Biggleswade, Sandy and surrounding towns and area.
  • Volunteers are needed to help with collections of donated produce, from local farms, veg businesses, supermarkets and schools, which is added to the veg boxes on the delivery day.
  • Volunteers are needed to help man a table at local markets and shows, handing out leaflets, spreading the word about VBDS and taking donations. A fun day out in the sun (hopefully), meeting local people.
  • Assist in special deliveries at Christmas and Easter.
  • Visit and speak at local churches, allotments, social and sport groups and schools to raise support for VBDS.

Volunteers can do as much or as little as they choose, and as often as they are available. At the least it would probably only involve a commitment of a few hours on one day every three or four weeks.

Volunteering is a wonderful way to meet others and to get involved in helping your local community. You also become part of a volunteering community and can join in social events with other volunteers.

If you have any time to spare and would like to get involved in one of our current schemes, please contact us.
